Hiker

Offline topographic maps for hiking in the mountains.

Hiker puts a full topographic map — trails, contour lines and summits — on your phone before you leave, so it still works when the signal does not.

What it is

Hiker is an iOS app with offline topographic maps covering most of Europe. You download the region you are heading to while you still have a connection, and from then on the map, the marked trails and the elevation contours are read from your device. No signal, no data plan and no roaming are needed on the mountain.

Hiker is free. It has no ads, no accounts and no subscriptions, and there is nothing in it to unlock.

What it does

Why it exists

Hiking happens where there is no cell service, and most map apps stop working there. A map that goes blank halfway up a valley is worse than no map at all, because you were counting on it. Hiker was built the other way round: everything you need on the trail is on the phone before you start walking.

Hiker is built on open data, and the people and projects behind it deserve the credit:

Privacy
