Privacy Policy for Hiker

Hiker does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data to us. It has no accounts, no analytics, no advertising, and no tracking.

Hiker ("the app") is a hiking map application developed by Michele Banfi ("we", "us"). This policy explains what data the app does and does not handle.

Data we collect

None. Hiker has no user accounts, no sign-in, no analytics, no advertising, and no third-party tracking SDKs. We do not operate any backend that receives or stores information about you.

Location

Hiker requests permission to access your device location only while you are using the app ("When In Use"). Your location is used solely to show your current position on the map on your device. It is processed entirely on your device and is never collected, stored by us, or transmitted to us or to any third party. You can deny or revoke this permission at any time in your device settings; the app remains usable without it.

Offline map downloads

Map regions you download for offline use are stored locally on your device only. They are not uploaded anywhere and are deleted when you remove them in the app or uninstall the app.

Network requests to map providers

To display maps and to download offline regions, the app fetches map tiles, fonts, and images over HTTPS from third-party map providers:

• OpenFreeMap — base map tiles, fonts, and sprites
• VersaTiles — elevation/hillshade data
• hikerapp.duckdns.org — our own server, for elevation contour lines

As with any online map, these servers necessarily receive your device's IP address and the coordinates of the map tiles being requested (which indicate the general area of the map you are viewing). We do not attach any account, identifier, or your precise GPS location to these requests. Each provider handles the requests it receives under its own privacy practices.

External links

The app contains a "Support This Project" link that opens your web browser and takes you to a third-party website (Buy Me a Coffee). That site is governed by its own privacy policy, not this one.

Children

Hiker is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above.
